Kansas becomes the first team to finish #1 in the RPI to get a 3 seed.  Only 2 other #1 RPI teams have gotten a 2 seed.  They were North Carolina in 1995 and Cincinnati in 2000.  All other teams that finished #1 in the RPI got a 1 seed.

Iowa State became only the fourth team to finish #60 in the RPI or worse to have a single digit seed.  Here is the list:

Texas-El Paso (then Texas Western) defeated Utah 85-78 in the National Semifinals in 1966

Louisville defeated Louisiana-Lafayette (then Southwestern Louisiana) 88-84 in the Sweet Sixteen in 1972
