Alabama and Xavier are both making their first Elite Eight appearance in school history.
Bill Self became the third coach in NCAA Tournament history to lead 3 schools to the Elite Eight (Tulsa-2000, Illinois-2001 and Kansas-2004). See 3/19/2004 for other coaches.
